Courses

BALLET

Introductory and Basic. Preparation for academic ballet. Ages 4—6 years.

Academic Ballet. Technical training; the basis of all dance movement.

The following classes are added to the student’s schedule depending on the individual’s progress and as the program becomes more intensified.

Pointe. The technique of performing on toe (pointe) for classical and contemporary ballet.

Variations. The study of solo parts from the classical and contemporary repertory.

Partnering. The art of performing together in pas de deux (dance for two). Lifts and support work are taught to male and female dancers using classical ballet as a basis.

JAZZ

Jazz teaches the student contemporary and primitive styles of movement. Although the movements are less rigidly formalized than in ballet, the exercises teach and develop the ability to move and control each part of the body.

While ballet is influenced by the melodic line of music, jazz movement follows the rhythmic beat of the music. It is an exciting dance form that expands the student’s sense of interpretation and movement.

MUSICAL THEATRE

Form of theatre combining music, songs and spoken dialogue with dance.  The story of the dance is communicated through the words, music, movement and technical aspects of the entertainment as an integrated whole.  Dancing you see in a Broadway musical.

TAP

The art of rhythm tap emphasizes the syncopated rhythms of jazz music and the use of the entire body as a musical instrument.

CHARACTER

It is the stylized representation of a traditional folk or national dance, normally from a European country, and uses movements and music which have been adapted from classical dance for theatre.
