wide variety of classes is provided for every level in ballet,
jazz, tap, variations and partnering. The Ballet’s program
is designed for those who aspire to a career in dance as
well as for those who want to enjoy an excellent form of
exercise.

The technique of performing on toe (pointe) for classical and contemporary
ballet
Variations
The study of solo parts from the classical and contemporary ballet
repertory
Partnering
The art of performing together in pas de deux (dance for
two). Lifts and support work are taught to male and female dancers
using classical ballet as a basis.
Jazz
Jazz incorporates contemporary and primitive styles of movement.
Although the movements are less rigidly formalized than in ballet,
the exercises develop the avility to move and control each part
of the body. It is an exciting dance form that expands the student’s
sense of interpretation and movement.
Tap
The art of tap emphasizes the syncopated rhythms of jazz music
and the use of the entire body as a musical instrument.
Classes are also offered in Character, Pilates and Musical Theatre.

Performance Opportunities
Workshop
The Ballet Workshop is a performance opportunity open to students
from Beginner II through Advanced. All workshop sessions are
held on weekends for a six week period during the spring term.
Workshop performances are presented in a theatre.
New Jersey Ballet Company productions
Intensive level II through Advanced students are used in children’s roles in New Jersey Ballet Company productions such as Sleeping Beauty, Beauty & the Beast, Hansel & Gretel and more.
Nutcracker
Students from Beginner II level through Advanced are eligible to
audition for children’s roles in New Jersey Ballet Company’s
annual production of Nutcracker. This production, which
debuted in 1971, is the state’s longest running professional
production. The annual Nutcracker tour includes performances
at various locations statewide beginning in early December and
culminates in a two-week run at Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn. |
